WD's Fastest VelociRaptor Drive

Western Digital Corp. is shipping its fastest-ever VelociRaptor drive. According to the company's news release on Computer World, the new WD VelociRaptor has twice the capacity of its predecessor and is still the only 10,000 rpm SATA hard disk drive on the market.


"Western Digital Corp. announced today that it is shipping its fastest-ever VelociRaptor hard disk drive, which uses a 6Gbit/sec. Serial ATA interface and comes in 450GB and 600GB capacities.

"The new WD VelociRaptor has twice the capacity of its predecessor and is still the only 10,000 rpm SATA hard disk drive on the market. It's designed for blade servers and other servers, high-performance PCs and Macs, and professional workstations.

"With 32MB of onboard cache and its 6Gbit/sec. interface -- twice that of its 3Gbit/sec. SATA predecessor -- the new model boasts a 15% performance increase, according to the company."
