CalTech Honored by Storage Networking World

CalTech, the operational home for the Spitzer Science Center, has been recognized by Storage Networking World (SNW) and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) as a finalist in its 'Best Practices' Awards Program in the "Green Computing, Energy Efficiency and the Data Center" category. According to this Market Wire release, CalTech uses Nexsan disk-based storage systems to retain over 2 PB of Spitzer Space Telescope images on 2,000 drives, 130 controllers and 65 chassis.

"The SNW 'Best Practices' award category of Green Computing, Energy Efficiency and the Data Center recognizes achievements in deploying greener IT footprints, data centers, servers and/or storage environments. Those that are honored are chosen for their implementations of environmentally-friendly and cost-efficient computing scenarios.

"CalTech is the operational home for the Spitzer Science Center which performs research and data collection for the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope mission. To reliably store the Spitzer images and associated research, CalTech has deployed Nexsan disk-based storage systems to retain over 2 PB of Spitzer Space Telescope images on 2,000 drives, 130 controllers and 65 chassis. One of the keys to lowering overall operational costs for CalTech is Nexsan's revolutionary AutoMAID (Automatic Massive Array of Independent Disks) energy-saving technology."
