Deduplication Technology Gains Ground
According to this Stock Watch report, dedupe has become so crucial that data storage vendors have been earning millions and billions of money to acquire deduplication technology as enterprises adopt deduplication out of fear of data loss due to natural disasters.
"Dedupe has become so crucial that data storage vendors have been earning millions and billions of money to acquire deduplication technology, like there was a recent case when EMC (NYSE: EMC) acquired Data Domain for $2 billion.
"The technology of deduplication is also known as data reduction or commonality factoring, which allows users to store more data on fewer physical disks. Used in combination with tape, it assists to manage the data explosion by allowing organizations to keep data which is often accessed and they use that tape for medium- and long-term archival."
