Nimble Storage Combines iSCSI Data, Deduplication In Single Box

Nimble Storage Inc., has recently announced new storage systems that combine iSCSI primary data and deduplication-based data protection in one box. As reported on Search Storage, the systems use inline deduplication of snapshots to store up to 90 days of backups on the same device as primary storage.

"The platform is based on what Nimble Storage calls a CASL (Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout) architecture that handles the data deduplication and replication, as well as compression, thin provisioning, diagnostics and optimization for random reads on SSDs. Nimble Storage CEO Varun Mehta said the company's systems work with backup software applications, but no backup software is required."
