Seagate Targets Enterprise with SSDs

Seagate has not been the most forceful voice in pushing SSD technology but the company has recently come out with a pair of enterprise-class versions (the Pulsar.2 and Pulsar XT.2). In this interview on IT Business Edge, Arthur Cole spoke with Rich Vignes, enterprise senior product line manager for SSDs, Seagate.


"We appreciate that feedback, and the opportunity to respond. When SSDs first started making headlines in 2008 and 2009, we did not subscribe to the theory that they would take over the world in five years. Seagate's position, that SSDs are a small but important part of the enterprise, is being validated by the 2011 opinions of the major OEMs deploying SSDs and the market research firms. We have been and remain enthusiastic about SSDs in the enterprise in that context. SSDs enable existing applications to run faster, thus creating more data and more demand for storage. In this way, SSDs and HDDs remain complementary and fulfill different needs in the enterprise."
