Will Deduplication Remain Adequate?

Processor presents an article on deduplication in light of new, improved ways to manage growing data stores. With data storage needs increasing at fantastic rates, deduplication may not be adequate in the future. Companies will likely need a range of different technologies in order to help them deal with data growth. Currently however, reducing data at the application level can help reduce the strain of deduplication and make it easier to handle the growing amounts of data.


"Experts say that many companies will likely need a range of different technologies in order to help them deal with data growth. Amatruda notes, ‘I don’t think there’s any one magic bullet that’s going to solve all of the issues around data growth.’ He also cautions that IT shops are slow to adopt new backup and deduplication solutions. ‘At the end of the day, when you look at the way these IT shops run, it really doesn’t lend itself to the adoption of the latest and greatest product or concept or company,’ Amatruda says. ‘Data protection is really a risk-averse activity.’”
