Hitachi Data Systems and FalconStor Collaboration Offers Real-Time Data Migration Services

FalconStor Software, Inc. , a leading developer of network storage infrastructure software, this week announced that Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. , has chosen IPStor to power the migration appliance which provides on-line data transport between storage systems without interrupting data access in the production environment.

IPStor lowers TCO by enhancing the interoperability of heterogeneous storage systems and maximizes ROI by performing the information exchange in real-time without having the application hosts shut down during migration.

"Data protection and integrity are vital to today's enterprise IT organizations. With its high-performance mirroring and replication enabling quick and seamless data migration, FalconStor's IPStor became our ideal choice for the task at hand," said Ken Beaudry, senior vice president and general manager of Global Solutions Services, Hitachi Data Systems. "The combination of IPStor with Hitachi Freedom Storage solutions and services will help our customers to better protect their valuable data and maintain 24x7 operations, even when their storage environment is being upgraded."

"The Hitachi Data Systems' Professional Services team worked quickly to move our existing data to new storage servers. We experienced no unplanned outages, even during usual peak hours," said Arthur Bitts, senior systems engineer at Cummins Inc., a global power leader headquartered in Columbus, Indiana. "The data migration with IPStor was completely transparent to our end users, who were able to conduct business as usual. The final steps of the migrations were completed well within normal weekend downtime windows and all data was migrated successfully without any data losses."

IPStor enables replication from any storage system -including Direct Attached Storage (DAS) devices- over any platform or protocol. IPStor also offers asynchronous mirroring, for extending the distance of a mirror to remote locations, as well as replication over Fiber Channel, iSCSI and SCSI, extending the replication protocol to include local or remote attached SCSI or FC disks using a single IPStor for Online/Nearline Disk-based Backup/Restore.

"Hitachi Data Systems' extensive IT service abilities and their relationship with the business community position them well to leverage IPStor's robust and highly-available network storage architecture for data migration and other services at customer sites around the world," said Bernie Wu, FalconStor vice president of business development. "This relationship reflects FalconStor's continuing commitment to meet the growing corporate demand for highly available storage systems with high performance and manageability."
