Digi-Data Corporation this week announced the availability of the Fibre Sabre 2300 Family of Fibre Channel RAID Systems. At the heart of the Fibre Sabre 2300 RAID Systems is Digi-Data’s new Fibre Sabre 2300 RAID controller, which, Digi-Data says, complements its 2-gigabit per second host interface with a powerful internal memory architecture.

According to the company, the Fibre Sabre 2300 RAID systems employ an internal architecture that uses six disk channels to read or write to multiple disks simultaneously. Using 10000 and 15000 RPM disks, the Fibre Sabre 2300 delivers over 160 MB/second sustained throughput from disks even in entry level configurations with 5 disks (4 data disks and 1 parity disk).

In addition to standard RAID features like automatic detection of failed disks, power supplies, and fans with hot swappable replacement, Digi-Data Fibre Sabre 2300 RAID Systems offer data integrity features such as real-time hardware regeneration of data lost as a result of disk failure and global hot spare disks that provide parity protection even after several disk drives fail.

RAID System configurations range from small systems providing 72GB of usable disk space to large arrays providing over 10 TB of usable disk space. Using a fiber optic interface, Fibre Sabre 2300 RAID Systems connect to Fibre Channel switches and hubs in switched fabric SAN environments, or directly to host computers with Fibre Channel interfaces.
