Despite an economic downturn which has many companies avoiding tradeshows, this year's Storage Area Networks conference and exhibition, SAN 2001, boasted a six percent increase in attendance over 2000. SAN 2001 was held June 5-7, 2001 in San Jose, California.
"The increase in both exhibitors and attendees at this year's SAN conference demonstrated the industry's recognition of this leading event," said Dr. Lance Leventhal, Conference Director for SAN 2001. "We are excited about the results and will be building on this success with upcoming SAN conferences."
The keynote address was given by Greg Reyes, President and CEO of Brocade Communications Systems. Reyes stressed the importance of storage area networks given the projections for the increase in shipped data. He cited a Gartner study that estimates an expansion of data shipped from 2 petabytes in 2001 to 35 petabytes in 2005, with 70 percent of it to be SAN-attached.
The SAN 2001 Conference and Exhibition is designed for people interested in the design, technology, development and implementation of SAN technologies in new and existing computer systems and networks. The next SAN Conference will take place at The Forum Hotel in Munich, Germany November 26-29, 2001. In 2002, the SAN Conference will expand to the East and West Coasts, Europe and Asia.
