Quantum Corp. today announced the ATL M2500 automated tape library, which is aimed at mid-sized market.

“The mid-market customer is now demanding the same functionality found in enterprise-class products,” said Steve Duplessie, senior analyst with Enterprise Storage Group. “Quantum has seized on this trend by providing benefits considerably beyond basic data protection at an affordable price. The ATL M2500 will serve as the industry standard in mid-market systems.”

According to Quantum, the ATL M2500 scales up to 18 tape drives providing up to 1.94 TB/hour performance. The system can be expanded up to 300 cartridges and provides capacity up to 60 TB. Each ATL M2500 module includes eight removable magazines (each with 10 Super DLTtape(TM) or 12 LTO Ultrium cartridges) that allow for easy bulk loading and unloading. Up to three ATL M2500 modules can be configured in a standard rack to function as an integrated single library by utilizing the StackLink pass-through mechanism.

In addition, the company said the ATL M2500 can be combined and shared with ATL M1500 modules in the same rack, scaling across the entire product line. Individual modules can be added or removed while other modules remain online and operational. If a single module fails, other libraries in the stack continue to operate without intervention. Hot-swappable and hot-pluggable components include tape drives and power supplies with integral fans.

Quantum said the ATL M2500 has been tested for interoperability with third party hardware and software products. It is slated to begin shipping in the second quarter of this year.
