Snap Appliance Boosts Capacities of Snap Servers

Snap Appliance this week announced upgraded capacity configurations for three of its Snap Server network-attached storage (NAS) products, with two of the new configurations available for less than $4/GB.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company's Snap Server 1100 adds a new 250GB configuration to the existing 80GB and 160GB capacity offerings, while the Snap Server 2200 is now offered in a 500GB configuration to go along with the current 320GB model. The Snap Server 1100 is designed to serve as an ideal standalone file server for workgroup customers with portable storage needs, while the Snap Server 2200 is targeted at small workgroups and remote offices, and includes RAID 1 disk mirroring for increased data protection.

The Snap Server 4200 departmental NAS solution is now available with 640GB of storage capacity to complement the existing 320GB model, and includes hot-swappable drives, integrated anti-virus, local backup software, Microsoft Active Directory support, snapshot technology, and dual Gigabit Ethernet networking support.

Tumbleweed and iLumin Partner on Email Management and Compliance

iLumin Software Services and Tumbleweed Communications have entered into a strategic partnership agreement to jointly offer integrated email protection and enterprise archiving and compliance solutions to customers in the financial services and other industries. Under terms of the agreement, Tumbleweed and iLumin will jointly sell their integrated email firewall, email archival, and regulatory compliance solutions to new prospects.

Reston, Va.-based iLumin also announced that it has acquired Tumbleweed's Message Monitor email archiving product. Message Monitor will join iLumin's flagship enterprise message management and archiving suite, Assentor Enterprise, in delivering complete archiving, regulatory compliance, corporate supervision, mailbox management, discovery, and litigation support services.

Under the new partnership, iLumin's products will be offered with Redwood City, Calif.-based Tumbleweed's Email Firewall, an appliance designed to protect, filter, and secure inbound and outbound corporate email traffic at the Internet gateway. The Email Firewall also includes an integrated set of anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-hacker, content filtering, and secure messaging capabilities.
