IBM today announced that financial services application service provider, LiveOffice, has chosen the Enterprise Storage Server (code named “Shark”) to enable a storage area network (SAN) that supports the company’s rapid growth.

LiveOffice hosts software applications, professional content and web sites for financial customers including Fidelity, Charles Schwab and TD Waterhouse. The company says it experienced significant business growth over the last 12 months and accumulated vast amounts of customer data, requiring a comprehensive storage solution that could solve its e-business needs and support 24×7 data availability and reliability.

“We evaluated storage systems from IBM, EMC and Hitachi but IBM was a clear winner with Shark because of its superior architecture, price performance, sales and service team,” said Alexander Rusich, president and CEO of LiveOffice. “Since its deployment, we’ve been so impressed with the performance that we’ve decided to purchase a second Shark to give us even more capacity as we continue to grow.”

LiveOffice’s SAN, housed at an off-site facility, includes a 1.5 terabyte Enterprise Storage Server, attached via Fibre Channel switches to 12 database servers, using tape storage for data archival. The company plans to add a second Enterprise Storage Server’s to their SAN by late summer.
