ManagedStorage International Inc. (MSI) today announced an enterprise-class remote data protection service for companies to cost-effectively protect their business-critical data. MSI’s enterprise-class remote data protection service is 50-80 percent less expensive than competitive offerings and up to 71 percent less expensive than do-it-yourself options. The fully guaranteed service offering provides customers with remote off-site data storage management and monitoring by MSI’s storage experts.

“Although businesses understand the importance of protecting their valuable data assets, very few have implemented a data protection system because of budgetary constraints and operational challenges,” said Tom Sweeney, president and CEO of ManagedStorage. “Now they have an affordable service option with a guarantee to ensure that their data will be protected and kept safe.”

Businesses spend more than $17 billion a year on backup infrastructure according to Gartner, and very few of these companies actually perform daily backups of all their data. Furthermore, very few backup jobs are successfully completed and less than 50 percent of restore attempts are successful. For those businesses that do backup their data, less than 20 percent store their data in a secure off-site location.

“According to an ICSA study, nearly 40 percent of all servers experienced data loss from viruses alone, we’ve built our service around the best practices in the market, ensuring data is always backed up and instantly accessible in case of malicious corruption or accidental loss,” said John Guillaume, senior vice president of marketing for ManagedStorage.

More than 170,000 companies in the U.S. with high-speed network access will benefit from MSI’s enterprise-class remote data protection service. Small to medium-sized enterprise companies and remote locations of large corporations can now afford to have their data backed up daily and securely stored off-site every night. This new service will allow IT management to focus on strategic projects rather than managing the daily operations of data protection.

The process of installing the data protection service is simple. Customers would download VERITAS Software from MSI onto their server and automatic daily data protection begins over their existing network connection. Behind the scenes, the service is managed 24×7 by MSI’s storage professionals at the MSI Operations Center and the data is safely stored on enterprise-class equipment in secure off-site locations — all managed by MSI. If customers need to restore critical data, they can do so within minutes through MSI’s easy-to-use web portal or through the MSI Operations Center. Customers use a simple web portal to interface with MSI to quickly check the status of any backup job or add additional servers for protection.
