During an event in New York yesterday, VERITAS outlined the next phase in its strategy to lead the Linux storage market, with the unveiling of new products, industry partnerships and contributions to the Linux open source community. Specifically, VERITAS announced the availability of its clustering and NAS software for Linux, bringing management capabilities to Linux, and expanding the industry’s most complete selection of Linux-based storage software. The company also announced a series of initiatives to bring Linux solutions to market with key companies, including Dell, HP, IBM, Intel, and Red Hat.

“We view Linux as a strategic platform with immense growth opportunity,” said Gary Bloom, chairman, president and CEO, VERITAS Software. “No other vendor can match the breadth of our storage software on Linux.”

VERITAS’ Linux offerings include Cluster Server, the No. 1 clustering software solution in the market, ServPoint NAS software, VERITAS Foundation Suite and NetBackup. The products are currently supported on the Red Hat Advanced Server operating system.

“Open Source projects such as Linux can offer significant total cost of ownership savings over proprietary solutions,” said Bill Watson, manager of system administration, The Weather Channel. “By bringing the power of their storage software solutions to Linux, VERITAS Software has made it easier than ever to realize those savings.”

“VERITAS Software’s support of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server validates its commitment to Linux as an enterprise solution,” said Mike Evans, vice president of business development, Red Hat, Inc. “This announcement demonstrates the impact of Advanced Server on the enterprise Linux landscape. By integrating the innovations offered by partners like VERITAS Software, Red Hat is able to deliver enterprise-quality Linux faster and more economically, resulting in a high performing and stable OS platform for our joint customers.”

The company’s Linux product strategy includes the development of products for clustered database environments running on Linux and working to bring storage and clustering management software to Oracle9i Real Application Clusters on Linux in 2003. VERITAS Software is also working with Dell, HP, IBM and Intel on Linux initiatives.

“Intel and VERITAS Software are collaborating to deliver enterprise-class performance and solutions for Linux environments,” said Richard Wirt, general manager, Intel Software and Solutions Group. “The companies are working together to further the deployment of enterprise storage for Linux by demonstrating our solutions at joint customer sites worldwide.”
