DataCore ships SANsymphony-V
DataCore Software recently released SANsymphony-V, a version of its flagship SANsymphony storage virtualization software that is tuned specifically for virtual server and virtual desktop environments. The software can also be used in physical environments, as well as a mix of virtual and physical.
DataCore officials note that virtualization projects often get stalled -- or even cancelled -- due to users perceived need to rip and replace their storage infrastructure in order to upgrade to higher performance or higher capacity disk systems. SANsymphony-V allows users to virtualize their existing storage systems, thus decreasing the storage costs associated with migrating from physical to virtual environments.
DataCore officials also note that companies making the transition from physical to virtual servers/desktops may require a simplified storage infrastructure.
Its not always storage specialists that are in charge of virtualized environments, so a lot of the key enhancements in SANsymphony-V are in ease of use and reduced complexity, said George Teixeira, DataCores president and CEO.
SANsymphony-V allows users to create shared virtual disks in VMware, Microsoft and Citrix virtual environments.
New features in SANsymphony-V include integrated continuous data protection (CDP), two-click reverse replication, automated port selection (to reduce human error), and a built-in task scheduler to coordinate functions such as replication and snapshots.
A pass-through drives feature enables applications to see the disks in the same way they saw them in physical environments.
When you make the transition from physical to virtual, now you dont have to go through a copy of the data to fold it into the virtual environment, which expedites the transition process, said Augie Gonzalez, DataCores director of product marketing.
Gonzalez also claims that the asynchronous replication in SANsymphony-V is five times faster than in previous versions of SANsymphony, which reduces bandwidth requirements.
In addition to the new features in SANsymphony-V, the software includes standard SANsymphony features such as virtual tiered disk pooling, mirroring, I/O caching, online snapshots, thin provisioning and load balancing.
Pricing for SANsymphony-V starts at $10,000. A free trial download is also available.
