Storage management software company BakBone Software today announced at the FOSE government IT show that its NetVault backup/ restore software product has been certified by the U.S. government for use in federal agencies.

According to BakBone, the Federal budget for information technology (IT) in the fiscal year 2001is estimated to be $39.7 billion, with the Defense Department responsible for almost half of that amount. No doubt, it is hoping that certification of NetVault will result in BackBone receiving a chunk of the government's IT dollars.

NetVault's received its certification from the General Services Administration (GSA). Federal agencies already using NetVault include NASA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Naval Research Laboratory, and the Argonne National Laboratory.
