Trilliant Group this week announced its new planning tool, Storage Planning Assistant, Version 1.0. The storage planning and assessment software tool aligns storage technologies, practices, and products with business needs. Trilliant Group said its consultants utilize the tool during consulting engagements, helping them to provide storage management advice to senior business managers with a greater degree of accuracy.
Trilliant Group is an IT consulting firm focused exclusively on enterprise storage management. The company said it is vendor-neutral and sells no hardware or software to ensure objective recommendations based on storage management best practices.
According to the company, they developed the Storage Planning Assistant software in order to maintain consistency between engagements and increase the accuracy of its analysis. The tool includes a repository of comparative information that is the basis for the Trilliant Group Best Practices Model. Trilliant Group said it will not sell the Storage Planning Assistant, but will add the software to its arsenal of storage consulting methodologies.
"Our customers are constantly asked to justify their planned operational expenditures," said Mark Roberts, a senior partner with Trilliant Group. "The Trilliant Group Storage Planning Assistant ties business requirements to operational or technical impacts and costs from a business perspective.
"For example," Roberts continued, "one of our consultants can look at the availability requirements in an application's Service Level Agreement and, using Storage Planning Assistant, produce outputs quantifying the types and costs of storage components required to meet those goals. These might include clustering, mirroring, or data recovery."
Trilliant Group said it will use its Storage Planning Assistant as part of its overall services delivery method. The output from the software tool is fed directly into the Trilliant Group architecture model, which provides a base to begin design of a storage infrastructure.
