Storage virtualization DataCore(TM) Software this week introduced additional disaster recovery and fault tolerance capabilities in the fourth generation of its vendor-independent SANsymphony(TM) storage pooling software.

According to DataCore, SANsymphony 4.0 enhancements include the Asynchronous Internet Mirroring (AIM) option that improves disaster recovery capabilities by allowing organizations to cost-effectively replicate information to off-site locations over their existing Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure. Data availability and fault tolerance features, including SANsymphony's alternate pathing and synchronous mirroring capabilities, have been expanded to provide additional alternatives for mixed operating system environments.

"Managing increasing storage requirements is a challenge for companies both small and large. All companies need storage management resources that provide continuous access to their data, complete disaster recovery capabilities, enhanced performance, and robust security while decreasing the costs associated with managing these resources," said Ken Horner, DataCore's vice president of marketing. "With the new release organizations of every size have a scalable solution to meet their needs. SANsymphony 4.0 provides companies with a proven storage virtualization approach that lets them centralize and offload storage provisioning from their overworked staff while leveraging their storage hardware from any vendor."

SANsymphony version 4.0 is currently available through DataCore's SANvantage authorized partners and resellers. Configured virtualization nodes start at under $20,000 and vary with site-specific requirements.
