Maxtor(R) Corporation today announced that Maxtor's MaxAttach(TM) NAS 4100 network attached storage (NAS) file server, incorporating Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Server Appliance Kit 1.7, is fully supported by the new version 8.6 of VERITAS Backup Exec(TM) for Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000, announced last week.
According to the company, the VERITAS Software-Maxtor solution offers customers a fast and reliable, disk-to-disk method for backing up business-critical information at a cost comparable to traditional disk-to-tape methods. "VERITAS Backup Exec 8.6 support of Maxtor's NAS 4100 file server enables us to demonstrate the great value and cost effectiveness of MaxAttach solutions as part of an overall backup strategy," said Eric Kelly, president of Maxtor's Network Systems Group. "The combined VERITAS-Maxtor solution will benefit both small businesses and large corporations that, in the past, have not had a cost-effective alternative to tape-based backup."
Storing up to 320GB of data, the Windows Powered MaxAttach NAS 4100 file server provides the interoperability and manageability benefits of most general-purpose servers for as low as one-third the cost per gigabyte. VERITAS Backup Exec 8.6 further strengthens the MaxAttach NAS 4100's high capacity with a software compression feature that optimizes performance and disk utilization.
