LightSand, a pioneering developer of High Performance Wide Area Storage Networks, has announced that its SAN Extension Gateway has received Fabric Aware certification from Brocade (Nasdaq: BRCD) after passing all required compatibility and interoperability tests through the Brocade Fabric Aware Program.

Testing for the certification was conducted at the Brocade’s interoperability labs, which feature state-of-the-art facilities supporting end-to-end interoperability and performance testing of SAN products in multi-vendor and large fabric SAN environments.

“This combination of Brocade and LightSand technologies marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Fibre Channel,” said LightSand CEO Philip Black. “Until now, SANs were typically limited to a single site or to operations over short distance or with low-bandwidth bridges. Organizations can now extend their SAN fabric thousands of kilometers, unifying their SAN islands into one geographically dispersed SAN system.”

“LightSand’s products give critical capabilities to customers that need to interconnect geographically separated Brocade SANs,” said Jay Kidd, Brocade Vice President of Product Marketing. “Now our customers can effectively establish disaster recovery and business continuity solutions that incorporate adequate separation between primary and backup data centers. The LightSand products also enable organizations to establish new services like organization-wide centralized backup and synchronous mirroring over distances never before achieved.”
