Iomega Monday unveiled new hardware for smaller enterprises, or rather, the much sought after small and medium-sized business (SMB) market. The new cube-like Iomega NAS 200d, which comes in a compact desktop form factor, will be available in storage capacities of 320 GB and 480 GB.

Engineered for small deployments, remote offices, and workgroups, the 200d is based on Windows Server 2003. The 200d bundle brings with it support for Directory Services in addition to file serving for UNIX, Linux, Macs, Netware, and, naturally, Windows.

Touting a 15 minute "up and running" time for installation, the 200d is designed for quick deployment and, in keeping with its target market of businesses with limited IT resources, ease of management. The hardware also supports the company's answer to backup tape, REV drives and media.

Powering the box is an economical Intel Celeron rated at 2 GHz, mated to 256 MB of DDR RAM for the 320 GB version and twice that (512 MB) for the 480 GB edition. Both models connect to the network via Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports — one GbE port for the 320 GB version, while its big brother gets two. Four USB 2.0 ports on each model allow for connectivity of additional peripherals. An UltraSCSI 320 connection is standard on the 480 GB 200d.

The pint-sized storage system houses Serial ATA (SATA) drives and supports RAID 0, 1 configurations. Further keeping data secure is eTrust Antivirus 7.0 from Computer Associates as well as Iomega's own backup suite.

Shipping in June in the Americas (worldwide availability to follow later this summer), the unit will cost $1,399 for the 320 GB model and $1,999 for the 480 GB edition.
