VERITAS Software Corporation today announced a partnership with McDATA Corporation and StorageTek to deliver a LAN-free backup and recovery solution.

The storage area network (SAN)-bundled package to be distributed through Avnet Hall-Mark — a division of Avnet’s Computer Marketing Group and distributor of enterprise computing systems — includes VERITAS NetBackup(TM) DataCenter with VERITAS NetBackup(TM) Shared Storage Option software, McDATA directors, switches, host bus adapters (HBAs) and bridges, and StorageTek tape solutions.

Robin Purohit, senior director of product management for SAN, Clustering and Replication at VERITAS, said, “Joint testing and compatibility between the three companies helps ensure heterogeneous interoperability for mutual SAN customers. Hall-Mark further enhances these offerings by providing a single source for these customers to obtain the hardware, software and professional services that meet their diverse enterprise demands.”

The partnership’s initial offering is targeted to those who require an entry to mid-range LAN-free backup solution, while a follow-up bundle will target the high-end enterprise customer who requires assured SAN infrastructure and compatible hardware.
