The Future of Big Data Includes HP

HP announced it has acquired Autonomy, a software company that knows how to handle Big Data in an enterprise. The acquisition, reports eWeek, comes at an $11billion price but puts HP in the position of archiving data, accessing it, finding it, analyzing it, reporting on it and returning it to where it should be kept forever in a form that can be distributed nativly by a cloud system. The future of IT is in Big Data and HP is investing in the tools to compete in the future.

"’To some extent, it is,’ Kessler said. ‘We wonder if this is the right time and right series of actions to take for the company. It's going to be very difficult, we think, to sell the PC business. One wonders now if it made sense to buy Palm, and going forward, can they really be a player in software on a global scale.’"
