EMC Expands Relationship With Sony

Information storage provider EMC Corp. this week announced an expansion of its relationship with Sony Broadcast and Professional Company Japan.

Under a new OEM agreement, Sony Broadcast & Professional Company will offer an EMC CLARiiON(R)-based storage system with its new XPRI(TM) Digital Content Creation System. Both companies are showcasing the combined solutions at the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention.

According to the companies, the new Sony nonlinear editing systems, designed for use in professional and broadcast environments, provide the latest digital editing features, including support of high definition TV. EMC said its system is capable of scaling to meet the most demanding applications, and will be marketed by Sony B & P Company as the Sony Fibre Channel Storage Unit (DMW-ST001).

"Sony's goal is to position XPRI(TM) as a core digital content creation platform, compatible with a wide variety of different applications, from content creation to distribution, by adding application modules from Sony and third parties," said Ichiro Segawa, senior general manager of the Network Production Systems Division at Sony's B & P Company. "We are pleased to work with EMC to provide a state-of-the-art solution that meets the rapidly growing production and post-production needs of our broadcast and professional customers."

Bill Nelson, EMC's senior vice president of Content and Information Center Markets, added, "The production industry is at the forefront of an information explosion. This agreement combines the technology of two industry leaders to provide broadcasters and others with an information storage solution that will enable customers to meet the needs of their changing industry."
