Enterprise storage network infrastructure provider Emulex Corp. announced Wednesday the availability of Version 2 of its OneCommand Vision I/O management application — an update meant to reduce ongoing costs in data centers and cloud environments.

Emulex (NYSE: ELX ) OneCommand Vision 2.0 provides increased scalability, improvements in usability, custom alerts and reports, and expanded support for hypervisors, the company said.

“OneCommand Vision manages and proactively solves the proverbial ‘blind spot’ in the data center — I/O,” Shaun Walsh, Emulex vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

“By viewing I/O from the application’s perspective, OneCommand Vision fills a critical hole in performance and availability management not covered by traditional resource management tools,” Walsh added.

The package is designed to simplify management of heterogeneous networking and cloud computing infrastructures, and provide performance and availability data for “baselining, tracking, alerting and troubleshooting complex performance problems.”

OneCommand Vision provides a so-called Application View of performance management, which is designed to help spot disruptions by covering the entire I/O path, the company said.

It also helps establish performance and availability metrics for I/O service-level agreements (SLA) that ensure each application’s needs are met, especially when migrating storage to public or private clouds.

Among the new features in the updated product is simplified deployment — for instance, a single management application with VMware vCenter authentication and Active Directory integration, Emulex said.

Additionally, Version 2.0 expands support for operating systems and hypervisors, including Solaris 10 and Oracle Enterprise Linux, as well as Windows Hyper-V and VMware ESX Versions 4.1 and 5.

Meanwhile, OneCommand Vision 2.0 also features new I/O summary reports for important performance areas, simplified navigation, and integration with HP OpenView, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, and other third-party frameworks, according to Emulex statements.

“Reclaiming as little as two percent of the storage infrastructure can save over $200,000 per year for a mid-sized SAN deployment,” Emulex claims.

OneCommand Vision 2.0 starts at $28,000 for a base-level installation.
