Sepaton Taps Hitachi for Deduplication Storage

Sepaton will use the Hitachi Data Systems AMS 2100 storage array as the back-end storage for its high-end S2100-ES2 deduplication virtual tape libraries (VTLs).

The HDS array replaces one from Dot Hill (NASDAQ: HILL), which will continue to supply storage for Sepaton’s low-end and midrange appliances. The move gives the high-end dedupe competitor to EMC’s (NYSE: EMC) Data Domain unit an 8 Gbit Fibre Channel back end for its enterprise customers.

And while the latest versions of the S2100-ES2 — the 1900 and 2900 — are a Sepaton product, the company could also see a boost from the HDS sales team, as Hitachi’s other dedupe partners, Data Domain and Diligent, have been acquired by competitors EMC and IBM (NYSE: IBM).
