HP (NYSE: HPQ) has refreshed its small business storage networking product lineup with new NAS and SAN offerings.

The new data storage products were part of a broader announcement aimed at small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), and HP also hinted that a cloud computing offering may be on the way.

“We definitely see the SMB market as a growth market across the board,” said Lee Johns, HP’s marketing director for unified storage, who called the new offerings “very attractive storage for people who aren’t storage admins” and need shared storage for virtual environments.

The new offerings start with the HP StorageWorks X310 Data Vault, a NAS device that starts at $549 for 1TB and can expand to 7TB internally and 15TB externally using eSATA and USB ports. The Microsoft Windows Home Server-based system also allows file sharing through a custom URL that is accessible from any Web browser.

The X310 Data Vault also provides access control and daily automated backup for up to 10 PC clients or Macs.

The HP StorageWorks X1000 Network Storage Systems are Windows Storage Server-based systems that offer NAS or iSCSI connectivity and start at $3512. HP Automated Storage Manager (ASM) software allows for improved file sharing, setup and data migration.

HP says the new X1000 has twice the capacity in half the footprint of previous generations for 44 percent less, and file-level deduplication can further improve storage efficiency. HP also offers a tower version to save SMBs and branch offices the cost of a rack server enclosure. The X1000 can also be used as a NAS gateway.

The HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array (MSA) System now comes with a 6Gbps SASoption, doubling capacity and performance over previous versions, with pricing for the dual controller array starting at $8,970. The arrays also come with a Fibre Channel option. Johns said about a third of the company’s customers are using SAS connectivity.

Users can also opt for greater data protection with MSA Snapshot software with HP Volume Copy, which automatically replicates snapshots of data to a different set of disks within the array.

HP is also offering P2000 G3 MSA Fibre Channel SAN starter kits, with 8Gb FC switches and HBA, starting at $16,500, which can be used to expand the SAN environment to nearly 200 TB.
