Voltaire, one of the leading developers of Infiniband technology, today released a white paper that addresses the five major myths associated with InfiniBand architecture. The white paper also outlines the significant cost and efficiency benefits InfiniBand offers data center operations.
Voltaire has taken the lead in working with early adopters, such as large financial institutions, to deploy full InfiniBand clustered server environments that support high-end database applications.
By supporting these early pilots and through its sponsorship of the InfiniBand IT Roadshow, a three-city event hosted by the InfiniBand Trade Association for IT leaders focused on preparing their organizations for InfiniBand deployment, Voltaire is playing a major role in InfiniBand education at the enterprise level.
Developed to improve data centers' efficiency, InfiniBand is the new I/O standard that enables enterprises and service providers to enhance the performance of their data centers while reducing total cost of ownership, as their data and storage needs continue to grow. It brings data centers a host of benefits including scalability, modularity, end-to-end high-availability, low latency clustering, reduced physical complexity and simplified management. The white paper addresses several of the common misconceptions associated with InfiniBand technology such as the notion that InfiniBand simply adds bandwidth and that the belief that product development cycle is in its earliest stage.https://o1.qnsr.com/log/p.gif?;n=203;c=204660765;s=10655;x=7936;f=201812281308090;u=j;z=TIMESTAMP;a=20400368;e=i
"What the industry needs now is a clear cut demonstration of the unmatched InfiniBand values such as the linear scalability, low TCO and the superb clustering capabilities," said Asaf Somekh, director of marketing, Voltaire. "Through our direct interaction with IT managers, this white paper and our participation in the InfiniBand IT Roadshow, Voltaire continues to take the lead in educating IT managers and working with early adopters to demonstrate the benefits of InfiniBand in order to advance the adoption of full-scale deployments in the data center."
Designated for Information Technology executives, the InfiniBand IT Roadshow will feature sessions on deployment strategies for InfiniBand architecture, the benefits that InfiniBand delivers to data centers and cost-effective deployment strategies. The Roadshow begins today in Washington, D.C. and will travel to Boston, Mass. on June 19 and conclude in New York on June 21. Further information on the InfiniBand IT Roadshow can be found on the InfiniBand Trade Association's Web site at www.infinibandta.org.
Established in August, 1999, the InfiniBand Trade Association is led by Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. The Trade Association's mission is to deliver the next generation standards based data center I/O interconnect. With a 1.0 specification completed in October, 2000, and a 1.0.a version completed in June 2001, the Trade Association is working with its member companies to deliver InfiniBand architecture enabled solutions to data centers. This work includes a pervasive compliance and interoperability program as well as marketing the technology to the industry and end customers.
