Cable & Wireless today announced it has purchased selected assets from storage utility service StorageWay, Inc., for $2 million. The products and services acquired from StorageWay will be managed as part of the managed storage services portfolio within Cable & Wireless’ hosting and web services business.

Cable & Wireless’ Exodus business previously resold the StorageWay services to its customers and delivered the services from Cable & Wireless data centers located around the world. Existing customers will continue to receive storage services as usual with the financial strength of Cable & Wireless behind service delivery and management.

As part of the agreement with StorageWay, Cable & Wireless is purchasing two enterprise-class storage solutions: a disk storage service that provides utility-like access to 24×7 managed, RAID protected storage, and a tape backup and restore service. According to C&W, the StorageWay services complement the existing suite of Exodus storage solutions that enable customers to quickly and cost-effectively take advantage of an enterprise-class storage and backup infrastructure.

“Managed storage has long been a critical component of a complete managed hosting solution, and Exodus has gained significant expertise designing and implementing managed storage solutions for enterprise customers,” said Chris Albinson, chief strategy officer for Exodus, a Cable & Wireless Service. “By adding the StorageWay assets to our existing suite of storage solutions, we now offer customers enhanced storage capabilities and solutions from a flexible, experienced provider, along with the financial strength of Cable & Wireless.”
