StorageTek today furthered its commitment to providing reliable and interoperable solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs) by announcing the upcoming availability of the Brocade SilkWorm(R) 12000 Core Fabric Switch. According to StorageTek, the SilkWorm 12000, when used in conjunction with StorageTek’s storage solutions, allows companies to cost-effectively utilize storage management by improving storage allocation, increasing operational efficiency and assuring continuous data availability.

The Brocade SilkWorm 12000 is the industry’s first 2 Gigabit per Second (Gbit/sec), modular, multi-protocol core fabric switch designed to support the unique demands of enterprise storage applications and services. Available in 32-port, 64-port and 128-port configurations and based on the Brocade Advanced Fabric Services Architecture, the SilkWorm 12000 provides the advanced fabric services required to support enterprise storage environments.

“With the addition of the SilkWorm 12000, StorageTek continues to deliver on its commitment to provide customers with the greatest choice possible in delivering heterogeneous SANs in enterprise environments,” said John LoPorto, StorageTek vice president, SAN Solutions. “Our work with partners and industry leaders such as Brocade demonstrates our dedication to the common goal of increasing storage growth while also maximizing usage of our customers’ existing technology.”

“The SilkWorm 12000 is the industry’s only 2 Gbit/sec modular fabric switch designed to network true high-availability enterprise storage environments,” said Jay Kidd, Brocade vice president of Product Marketing. “Together with StorageTek, we are continuing to increase the intelligence in the storage networking platform, delivering to the end user a more feature-rich storage environment with the availability, manageability, and security capabilities required to support business-critical applications.”
