Adaptec Achieves iSCSI Milestone

Adaptec, Inc. announced today that it has set a new TCP/IP offload (TOE) wire speed milestone critical to the deployment of iSCSI and NAS applications. The company claims to be the first to achieve sustained data throughput of up to 226 Mbytes per second, with data packets as small as 512 bytes. A demonstration of the wire speed performance is being showcased this week by Adaptec at Storage Networking World.

Adaptec said its ASIC-based full-TCP/IP offload (TOE) solution shatters previous industry milestones with its ability to processes the broadest range of data packet sizes and guarantee in-order delivery of packets at wire speed.

“The ability to have full TCP offload allows users to take advantage of high performance, even with different packet sizes — which matters in the world of storage,” said Steve Duplessie, senior analyst at The Enterprise Storage Group.

In addition to enabling IP Storage applications like iSCSI and FCIP, Adaptec said its ASIC-based TOE technology can be used to accelerate a wide variety of server applications as well, providing users with greater throughput and reduced response times. The technology is currently being delivered on Adaptec’s Storage Protocol Accelerator ASIC in the form of the ANA-7711 TOE adapter, now sampling with OEMs.
