Quantum Technology Exceeds Customer Needs for Reliable Protection of Data

Quantum Corp. today announced that its Super DLTtape(TM) products are exceeding the growing storage needs of industry leading businesses with greater tape drive performance, reliability, higher capacity media cartridges and a technology roadmap that extends several generations into the future.

“Quantum brings a distinguished history of expertise to tape storage,” said Bob Abraham, president, Freeman Reports. “Nowhere is this more significant than with its Super DLTtape products. Quantum’s SDLT 220 drive is meeting with broad acceptance as a viable solution for high-capacity, high-performance backup applications while maintaining compatibility with prior generations. The forthcoming SDLT 320 drive will enable users to seamlessly boost capacity and performance to the next level, in keeping with the Super DLTtape technology roadmap. Future generations of Super DLTtape products are specified to provide state-of-the-art technology that tracks users’ growing storage requirements.”

One of the thousands of organizations realizing the benefits of Quantum’s Super DLTtape technology is Koonce Pfeffer Bettis architects. “Super DLTtape drives are backward compatible with my existing DLTtape system,” said Kristofer Gills, IT manager, Koonce Pfeffer Architects. “My experience over the past ten years with Quantum has been very positive and if I needed help, I was always taken care of,” said Gills. “Rather than risk trying something new, I am sticking with the brand I trust.”

Super DLTtape Technology Roadmap: A Solid Path for Growth
Quantum’s progressive roadmap will keep Super DLTtape capacity and speed growing fast enough to allow IT professionals to simplify and accelerate their backup. In addition to the capacity and speed increases, the roadmap also helps businesses to ensure protection of mission-critical information, as Super DLTtape technology is backward read compatible with DLT 4000, DLT 7000 and DLT 8000 drives.

Heartland Payment Systems, a provider of credit card processing services for more than 50,000 merchants nationwide, relies on Super DLTtape technology to grow with their expanding needs. “We want Super DLTtape technology for the long run,” said Brad Williams, director, Network Services, Heartland Payment Systems. “I’ve worked with DLTtape technology as long as I can remember and I have faith in it. Other technologies just do not have that track record and we don’t know if they will be around down the road.”

Next-Generation Data Protection: SDLT 320
“Quantum is committed to delivering products that our customers can trust and depend on when failure is not an option,” said Andy Grolnick, vice president, Marketing, Quantum’s DLTtape(TM) Group. “That trust is a result of more than two decades of developing leading-edge data protection solutions.”

The second product on the Super DLTtape roadmap, the SDLT 320 drive, will enable IT professionals to reliably backup more data in less time, with a per-cartridge capacity of 160 GB native and a transfer rate of 16 MB/s native. General availability of SDLT 320 products is expected in the second calendar quarter of 2002.
