Network Attached Storage vendor Network Appliance, Inc. today announced plans to work with Oracle Corp. to develop collaborative solutions to distribute e-business content throughout an enterprise.
The companies’ say their approach aims to “liberate information” from the corporate data center, proliferate it for maximum effect at remote and branch offices, and distribute it to the employees whose timely use of that information is vital to business success.
“NetApp(R) and Oracle are expanding their relationship beyond the storage in the data center to content delivery solutions at the edge of the enterprise,” said Thomas Kurian, vice president of Oracle9i Application Server Development at Oracle. “By working closely with Network Appliance, we can help reduce the complexity and cost of developing and deploying new applications that leverage enterprise CDNs optimized to deliver fast, fresh content on business-critical intranet sites.”
At the heart of the Network Appliance collaboration with Oracle is Edge Side Includes (ESI), an open specification for assembling dynamic Web pages at the edge of the data center and at the edge of the Internet. With ESI, companies can reduce the complexity and infrastructure requirements of developing, deploying, and maintaining highly scalable and reliable intranet sites and e-business-based applications. Network Appliance says it will endorse the ESI specification as a proposed open language for caching dynamic content; Network Appliance and Oracle plan to work together to make edge caching of dynamic content seamless with caching in the application server, and to bring flagship enterprise CDN functionality to customers around the world.
