HP Updates IBRIX NAS with the New X9730
HP is setting its sights on big file management workloads with a new IBRIX network attached storage (NAS) systems that scales up to 1.7 petabytes (PB) per system and up to 16 PB in a name space.
Joining HP's IBRIX X9000 line of enterprise NAS arrays is the IBRIX X9730, a 5U system comprised of a Performance Block and a Storage Block packed with up to 70 SAS hard drives that run at 7,200 RPM. As its name implies, the X9730 Performance Block performs the heavy lifting on the storage management front using two HP ProLiant BL460c G7 Servers and a p1210m storage controller.
According to HP, the new NAS hardware "delivers three times the sequential workload performance of its predecessor," the X9720. It's a boost, says HP, that will enable faster analytics and e-Discovery, among other storage-reliant computational workloads.
The systems ships with a minimum of 210 TB when selecting the 3 TB drive option and 140 TB with 2 TB HDDs. The company's HP Z BLc VC Flex-10 Enet Module provides 10 GbE network connectivity. Supported file serving protocols include CIFS and SMB, NFS, HTTP, HTTP/S, WebDAV, FTP, FTP/S and NDMP.
Along with the new NAS hardware, HP also launched IBRIX Operating System Software v6.1. The storage OS update brings a new wizard-based installation interface. Using the new interface in conjunction with pre-configured systems and expansion modules can shrink deployment times -- from installation to file serving -- to a mere 10 minutes.
IBRIX OS v6.1 also enables policy-based tiering, automated data prioritization, snapshots, remote replication and write once read many (WORM) archiving capabilities. It also supports VLAN tagging, LDAP services and – for an extra measure of data integrity and security – anti-virus protection.
Further helping storage administrator employ a light touch approach to NAS file management, HP is bundling its IBRIX Constant Validation Software. The technology monitors and automatically repairs corrupted files in the background, ensuring file availability.
HP IBRIX X9730 is available now. Prices start at $192,589 for a 140 TB system (2 TB HDDs). The 210 TB (3 TB HDDs) model lists for $223,589.
