Dell and EMC today announced enhancements to EMC’s software family for customers running Dell/EMC storage area network (SAN) solutions.

The companies said that among the enhancements to Dell/EMC ControlCenter Navisphere software, MirrorView software and SnapView software suites is the ability for customers to securely manage storage networks from remote locations and increase the storage network’s uptime. The enhanced software products join Dell and EMC’s global offering of storage systems and services as new developments in the relationship since announcing the partnership in October of last year.

According to the companies, Navisphere v.6.0 enhancements include centralized, Web-based management interface enabling
customers to monitor, configure and tune Dell/EMC storage
securely from anywhere at any time using a JAVA-based Web
browser; as well as enhanced security features designed to control access and
protect the integrity of the storage system.

MirrorView enhancements include cost-effective disaster recovery and business-continuance
capabilities through enhanced remote mirroring between
geographically separated Dell/EMC FC4700 systems; as well as the ability for customers to mirror up to four primary
sites to a single secondary site and reduce their disaster
recovery/business continuance costs by up to 20 percent.

SnapView enhancements include improved operational efficiencies through
customers being able to take multiple snapshots of a
single LUN and perform multiple, simultaneous processes
such as data backups or refreshes.

Other Dell/EMC FC4700 platform enhancements include management support for the full line of Dell PowerVault(tm) tape products; additional boot from SAN for Dell PowerEdge
servers and enhanced clustering capabilities to allow for
increased uptime; as well as additional Unix server support.

The enhanced software is planned to be available worldwide on Dell/EMC storage next month.
