VERITAS Software Corporation this week announced its strategy to support the forthcoming Oracle9i Database, enhancing availability, performance and manageability for customers planning to take advantage of this new Oracle(R) technology.

The company also announced it is adding significant enhancements to VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle online storage management and VERITAS NetBackup(TM) data protection solutions. The first product to take advantage of the Disk Manager feature within Oracle9i, VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle optimizes Oracle9i performance and further increases database manageability. VERITAS support of Oracle Disk Manager allows files to be created and extended contiguously, ensuring that performance does not degrade as tablespaces grow over time.

VERITAS NetBackup for Oracle will add Oracle9i to its comprehensive platform and application support. VERITAS NetBackup for Oracle leverages the increased capabilities of the Oracle9i Recovery Manager (RMAN) feature within the Oracle9i Database to make the combined product offering more attractive to the companies’ mutual customers. VERITAS NetBackup for Oracle will exploit the power of multinode Oracle9i Real Application Clusters environments, backup and recovery checkpoint/restart, and other new Oracle9i RMAN features. This new VERITAS NetBackup for Oracle functionality allows users to utilize their Oracle clustered environment while ensuring increased application and data availability.

In support of Oracle’s advanced clustering technology, VERITAS Software has also announced a new product, VERITAS Database Edition(TM)/Advanced Cluster for Oracle, integrating the high availability technology of VERITAS Cluster Server(TM), the leading clustering solution for Sun Solaris. The product will support — in heterogeneous environments — Oracle Parallel Server running on Oracle8i in its initial release, and is scheduled to support Oracle Real Application Clusters on Oracle9i in a soon to follow release.
