HP Picks Up PolyServe

HP is moving further into high-end network-attached storage (NAS) with the acquisition of PolyServe. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

HP said the deal — building on a two-year partnership between the two companies — gives it a strong presence in enterprise-class NAS and will also allow it to extend NAS technology to blades, the fastest-growing segment of the storage market. PolyServe also offers HP a high-performance consolidation platform for databases.

Eight-year-old PolyServe is headquartered in Beaverton, Ore., and has 117 employees and more than 500 customers. PolyServe software works with industry-standard hardware to consolidate and virtualize NAS in Linux or Windows environments. With the software, information from file or database servers can be consolidated into a single, shared pool of storage, offering high availability and scalability.

PolyServe software was behind HP’s recent StorageWorks EVA File Services offering.

“Our two-year relationship with PolyServe has convinced us that its technology will help accelerate HP’s growth and complement our HP StorageWorks, ProLiant and BladeSystem businesses,” stated Bob Schultz, senior vice president and general manager of HP’s StorageWorks Division.

The deal is expected to close in the next two months, after which PolyServe will join HP’s StorageWorks division.
