Nimble Storage rolled out a new member of its CS-series “converged storage and backup” arrays, Thursday, along with a new management plug-in for using the appliances with VMware.
The CS260 is a hybrid storage device that uses both solid-state disk (SSD) and large-capacity hard-disk drives (HDD) together, and will hold an effective capacity of 48 TB in a 3U rack space, according to a company statement.
In July, Nimble launched the CS210, a combined primary and backup storage appliance in a single array that uses flash memory in combination with high-capacity drives.
“We first diversified by extending our CS-series arrays to the lower end of the market with the introduction of the CS210 in summer [and] we’re now addressing the higher end with the CS260,” Suresh Vasudevan, Nimble Storage’s CEO, said in a statement.
There are also two other appliances in the series — the CS220 and CS240. All four are designed to shorten backup and restore times from hours to seconds and deliver disaster recovery as an integral component of the solution, the company said.
The CS260, as well as the other members of the CS-series family, is built on Nimble’s patent-pending Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout (CASL) architecture, “which enables fast inline data compression, intelligent data optimization leveraging flash memory and high-capacity disk, instant optimized backups and WAN-efficient replication — all in a single device,” the statement said.
Additionally, the company is shipping Nimble OS 1.1, an update to its operating system that also provides what it calls the Nimble VMware Plug-In version 2.0, which enables users of all the CS-series appliances create and administer datastores from within the vCenter VMware management console.
The new appliance comes in two configurations — the CS260 and the CS260G. The CS260 comes with six 1 GbE connections per controller, while the CS260G features two 10 GbE connections and two 1 GbE connections per controller.
