A server infrastructure lies at the heart of nearly every enterprise. From hardware to applications, the server room is a vital part of the IT backbone of every organization. Purchasing decisions are rarely made lightly.
We at ServerWatch spend our days following the trends and tracking the market leaders. From the large OEMs to the niche open source communities, we’re constantly taking the industry’s pulse. But even following the industry intently pales in comparison to the experience of actually deploying and using servers and management tools.
That’s why we’ve launched our Product Excellence Awards program, and we’re hoping you, our readers, can help.
The nominations process for the Serverwatch 2006 Product Excellence Awards began a few weeks ago, and is ongoing. If you haven’t already nominated a product for one of the 10 categories, we encourage you to do so.
We all have our favorites. What works particularly well for you? What is the best-of-breed solutions in these categories?
What midrange server works particularly well for you? What real-time communications software has improved the value of instant messaging and e-mail? What software infrastructure tool or virtualization software enables your system administrators to sleep soundly at night? Which open source community has contributed the most to the server landscape? We’re eager to hear from you about these categories and others.
We welcome recommendations on any products you’ve bought, leased, or subscribed to that made a difference in your organization and others. To be eligible, the products must have been either released or significantly upgraded between Jan. 1, 2005 and March 1, 2006. No need to nominate in every category, but we encourage nominations in as many as you feel comfortable making.
The nomination process will remain open until April 21. On May 2, we’ll post a list of finalists and switch to voting mode. On June 6, we’ll announce the winners.
