Sun Microsystems, Inc. this week announced new storage software, systems, services, and partner programs.
Sun said the new storage software offerings are built on its Storage ONE architecture including file systems and four new software suites: availability, performance, utilization, and resource management. The company also announced the new Sun StorEdge 3900 and 6900 series, which are targeted at the midrange UNIX market, and enhancements to the recently announced Sun StorEdge 9900 series for the high-end data center.
In addition, Sun announced new consulting, support, and training services including remote services capabilities, storage centers, and implementation offerings for Sun StorEdge Complete Storage Solutions. They’ve also added two new partner programs: the iForce Storage Elite Program and the Sun storage certification program.
Modeled after the Sun Open Network Environment (ONE), the company said Storage ONE is Sun’s architecture to provide an open, integrated storage management family. The company said the goals of the company’s Storage ONE software architecture are to provide: integrated storage management to enable a service-level approach to application storage provisioning, convergence of visualization and virtualization capabilities for both storage resource and application management, and integrated and open storage management architecture with policy-based automation.
