MaXXan Systems has a new name and a new focus.
The intelligent storage switch start-up now goes by the name of CipherMax and is focusing on storage security solutions. To help with the transition, CipherMax has closed on a $10 million funding round, led by U.S. Venture Partners, Venrock Associates and Scale Venture Partners (formerly BA Venture Partners).
“The convergence of storage, security and networking has created the need for a storage security solution that can be deployed within SANs,” said Ray Kao, chairman and CEO of CipherMax. “Our domain expertise in storage networking has given us unique advantages in developing a unified storage security solution that is scalable, reliable, cost-effective and easy to deploy for enterprise customers.”
Jon Oltsik, security analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said CipherMax has developed “a storage encryption solution with enhanced scalability and flexibility that uniquely simplifies device and key management for encrypted data.”
CipherMax bills its new CM100 family of storage encryption products for tape and disk-based storage networks as “the first storage encryption solution with intelligent features and integrated switching functionality that can be deployed and centrally managed from a single, global interface.”
The CipherMax CM100 family includes the CM110T, CM140T and CM180T for tape and the CM180D for disk.
The tape products use 256-bit AES encryption and data compression with an inline processing architecture and support for up to 16 Fibre Channel ports (32 ports in a clustered configuration).
The CM180D disk product offers 256-bit AES encryption of data at rest with an integrated switching function, supporting 16 ports in a single chassis or 32 ports in a clustered configuration. The CM180D can be trunked onto an existing SAN switch for non-disruptive integration, or installed as a standalone SAN in FC switching mode. Any-to-any connectivity eliminates the need for additional FC ports to maximize the use of encrypted data throughput, and automatic zone detection and optional LUNmasking and remapping reduce setup time and reduce configuration errors.
The SANCruiser graphical interface allows users to centralize SAN and security management for thousands of data encryption ports within a globally distributed network, and the KeyCruiser lifecycle management system ensures data recoverability with centralized encryption key management.
