Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN Deploys Cloud Storage by Seagate

HINWIL, Switzerland — Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN is working with the data storage company Seagate. 

Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN is partnering with Seagate on the team’s to tackle its “digital storage challenges head on” with Seagate Lyve Cloud, according to Seagate last month.

Seagate Lyve Cloud is designed as a mass capacity object storage platform to enable “multicloud freedom” at the edge.

Seagate believes that in a sport that generates “gigabytes on gigabytes” of data from sensors on the cars and at the factory, data storage involves ongoing issues, such as increasing cloud storage costs, unpredictable total cost of ownership (TCO), and data management complexity in the cloud. 

As the official object storage service partner of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, Seagate Lyve Cloud is set up to offer data privacy, no vendor lock-in, no API charges, and no egress fees. The team will retain full control of their data, while lowering barriers for storing, moving, and activating data at scale.

With the challenge of scaling their factory data beyond an on-premises storage appliance, Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN chose to deploy Seagate Lyve Cloud. They can store, access, and move their unstructured data at scale.

Seagate Lyve Cloud branding is visible on the team’s C42 cars’ headrests in the 2022 Formula One championship.

“Seagate is helping Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN future-proof its storage environment,” said Ravi Naik, CIO and EVP of storage services, Seagate.

The data generated by the racing team has been “growing on an exponential scale in the last few years and managing, storing, and accessing this information in a reliable and secure manner has become an increasing challenge for our team,” said Frédéric Vasseur, team principal, Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN.
