Exabyte Corporation, a network backup vendor, has tested and certified LSI Logic Corporation’sLSI44929 host bus adapter (HBA) with Exabyte’s Mammoth-2 (M2) tape drives.

LSI Logic said the LSI44929 is a dual channel HBA designed in the low profile PCI form factor for rack-mount applications and produces over 75,000 I/Os per second using both channels. The LSI44929 is auto-negotiable down to 1 Gigabit per second for backward compatibility with existing storage area network (SAN) infrastructures.

According to Exabyte, the M2 takes advantage of a full Fibre Channel environment to improve the overall performance of SANs, while reducing the cost of ownership through the elimination of Fibre Channel-to-SCSI routers and the reduction of maintenance and management costs.
