CommVault Systems has made available CommVault Galaxy enterprise data protection for EMC Celerra Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions.

Based on the industry-standard Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP), the company said CommVault Galaxy offers customers a single solution for managing Microsoft Windows and UNIX backup and recovery from a browser-based interface. CommVault also said CommVault Galaxy fully supports and protects all multi-protocol data managed by EMC Celerra.

With the qualification of the latest CommVault Galaxy release for NDMP version 3, CommVault said customers are assured fast, reliable protection of heterogeneous data residing on EMC Celerra File Servers. According to the company, the Galaxy software suite:

— Fully leverages the latest EMC Celerra File Server data protection capabilities

— Allows for full, differential and incremental NDMP backups, enabling administrators to select their optimum data protection strategy

— Improves single-file recovery through integration with NDMP Direct Access Recovery (DAR), allowing rapid recovery of business-critical data

“Through EMC’s E-Infostructure Developers Program, CommVault is working closely with EMC to deliver advanced, complementary solutions that provide enterprise-class information management for our customers,” said Linda Wright, director of EMC’s E-Infostructure Developer’s Program (EIDP). “With the availability of Galaxy for Celerra, CommVault and EMC can provide our customers with innovative and compatible solutions that enable data protection and disaster recovery in real-world enterprise deployments.”

CommVault said that from Galaxy’s unified, “all-in-one” browser-based console, administrators can simultaneously set storage policies, monitor events, and seamlessly assure the availability of business-critical information on EMC Celerra File Servers and LANs — without the need for disparate products, separate `bolt-on’ options or the need to tab between screens or interfaces.
