Veritas has served thousands of companies from various industries around the world to better manage and secure their data. Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is one notable client.
LJMU is one of the U.K.’s largest universities with around 21,000 students from over 100 countries and 2,500 faculty members and educators. The university has been a client of Veritas for years, using its NetBackup services to back up its data to tape.
It wasn’t long until the university’s data grew to over 150 TB, and its infrastructure needed to be upgraded. LJMU decided to switch to Veritas NetBackup Appliances, integrating pre-configured backup software, servers, and storage into individual appliances.
“We’ve found the Veritas NetBackup Appliances to be very flexible. Our old tape libraries were maxed out, but the appliances are easy to expand and that enables us to easily scale up going forward,” says Mark Smith, senior operations officer and IT services at LJMU.
“Full backups now take 75% less time, completing in four hours instead of 16 hours. That fits easily within the backup window.”
After the upgrade, the university was able to reduce recovery time by 90%, save over £20,000 in tape storage expenses, and increase backup success from 85% to 98%.
With almost three decades of experience in the data storage and protection industry, Veritas has garnered positive reviews from users at various third-party review sites.
