StorageTek, LSI Logic Offer Joint Storage Solution

Storage Technology Corporation (StorageTek) and LSI Logic Storage Systems have partnered to introduce a disk storage system, the D178, and storage management software, SANtricity Storage Manager 8.0 (formally known as Object Manager). The D178 and SANtricity software are the first in a series of disk-based storage systems and management software releases the companies plan to offer through a new distribution relationship.

Under the terms of the alliance, StorageTek will become the worldwide master distributor of co-branded open storage products. The companies plan to market a full line of scalable, high performance, high availability disk storage systems that will be engineered and manufactured by LSI Logic Storage Systems and sold, installed and supported by StorageTek. Together, LSI Logic Storage Systems and StorageTek will offer customers new storage solutions and storage bundles not previously available.

“With IT budgets shrinking and online storage demand continuing to increase, today’s storage customer is looking for simplified management, higher degrees of centralization and storage that remains continuously available,” said Randy Kerns, senior partner, Evaluator Group. “StorageTek and LSI Logic Storage Systems understand this, and today’s release of the D178 and SANtricity 8.0 significantly expands customers’ ability to address these issues.”

Tested for interoperability in storage area network (SAN) environments, the D178, according to the companies, works with major SAN hardware and software vendors’ products. In addition, they have enhanced the software functionality available for StorageTek’s D-series by now including SnapShot copy capability, dynamic volume expansion features and remote mirroring in SANtricity Storage Manager.
